We are glad you have found Channing Memorial Church here in beautiful downtown Newport, RI.  We think you will find within our doors a welcoming spiritual community filled with talented individuals who are passionate about improving, not only Chaninng Memorial Church, but the world at large.  Here at Channing Church we do not hold one another to any one creed or doctrine.  We welcome people from all faith, traditions, beliefs, and demographics. We also encourage folks to visit and attend services not only from Newport, RI. but from all surrounding areas and visitors from all over the world. We actively live our belief in the Unitarian Universalist principle in the inherent worth and dignity of every person.

Members of the congregation are encouraged to pursue their individual spiritual journey through an exchange of ideas, experiences and beliefs within our church community and the world community at large. Channing Memorial Church members are involved in many different social justice issues, including homelessness and hunger, LGBT rights, environmental issues and more.

Our beautiful Sanctuary, built in 1880 when Newport, RI. was an up and coming sea port, provides a traditional setting for the pursuit of progressive and liberal religious thought.  Built as a memorial to William Ellery Channing, a Newport native who is widely seen as the founder of modern Unitarianism in America, the church and our congregation has been at the forefront of the Unitarian Universalist tradition here in the United States since its beginnings. We hope you will decide to step inside our doors and join in our rich tradition and discover the stimulating and thoughtful community of Channing Memorial Church.
